Which Projector Set Do I Need for my Wagner HVLP Conversion Gun?

This is another common question... we get here at GleemPaint.com. As you may know, the Wagner HVLP Conversion Gun is a fantastic tool for the professional or the homeowner to have at his or her disposal. It produces a nice finish and is quite versatile.

Some of its versatility comes from the ability to change its projector set. For more information on what a projector set is, see our article "What Projector Set Comes Stock with the Wagner HVLP Conversion Gun?"

The stock projector set (#2) is made primarily for thinner finishes. It will spray lacquers, clears, tranparent stains, and many other delicate finishes and do it well. With the Wagner HVLP Conversion Gun you have the ability to adjust the air pressure at the gun. By raising the pressure you are able to spray many medium-weight finishes without changing the stock projector set (an example of a medium-weight finish would be something like an oil-based enamel). Thinning the material helps in this also. You can thin many materials up to 20%. This makes it much easier for the gun to atomize the paint.

Some paints are easier to spray than others, though. We call these paints "spray-friendly". The reason some paints are easier to spray is because of their particular ingredients. Many paints on the market are advertised heavily for their "One Coat Coverage". Not that we don't like getting a job done in one coat, it's just that preoccupation with this has led many paint manufacturers to add fillers to the paint to reduce translucency (being able to see through it once applied). These fillers may work great with a roller and a bucket, but they can be a challenge for a fine-finish sprayer like the Wagner HVLP Conversion Gun.

To combat this problem and be able to spray most latex paints, we recommend to our customers that they get a #4 projector set to have on hand. Between the stock set and the #4 you are covered for probably 90% of all paints out there.

For the convenience of our customers at GleemPaint.com, we have placed the #4 projector set as an easy add-on from the shopping cart once you select the Wagner HVLP Conversion Gun.

Happy Painting!!
